Spring and summer come late where I am now located. Summer is also milder here. But as the seasons have changed so have I. For awhile I lay dormant but recently things have been happening that are bringing me back to bloom. It all started on a special weekend.
A group of my new friends were gathering for a campout at the lake. While camping out has never been one of my interests I decided to take a chance and go. It was a decision I will never regret.
I noticed her when we first arrived. She was all business setting up her area but I noticed that people continued to be drawn over to her to chat. There was always laughter coming from that direction. Later that night around the fire I could not help but notice that she was pretty much always the center of attention or the group leader. I also could not help but notice that besides her outgoing and winning personality she was really a knockout. Her camping clothes helped to reveal a figure that any red blooded male would love to explore. It was pretty calm that night as everyone was settling in and still getting their “stuff” arranged. My friends told me that the real fun would start in the morning. Well their idea of fun and mine really didn’t match up. Waking up at sunrise for a dip in an ice water lake and a nice 10 mile walk just isn’t this city boy’s idea of a good time. I was told that things would “pick up” in the evening. They were definitely right.
Drinks were flowing that night around the campfire. I decided that I would “sip and watch”. As I sat there I noticed that she too was just sipping and watching the crowd. I noticed that because my eyes kept being drawn to her. I just could not believe that this beauty was sitting by herself. And I did notice that we caught each other looking several times. When we finally caught ourselves looking she smiled. My heart froze and then melted. We sat there and all of the background faded. After an eternity she broke the gaze and slowly stood up and stretched. She announced that she felt like going down to the lake and watch the moon. Everyone else was into what ever game was going on at the time and did not notice. I stood and said that if she didn’t mind I would go with her “just to keep you safe”. We exchanged looks, she nodded, and we started down the trail watching the moon’s reflection over the water…………………..
